All I had to do was write a simple regional seminar announcement. But the more I stared at SONET diagrams the more they looked like snowflakes. Since SONET was changing the way people thought and worked in that field, evolution came to mind. The chance to do an better than expected piece was too great to ignore.
The agency liked my idea enough to bring in Frank Farah, the cartoonist. The client liked the result so much it was picked up by other regions and an extra print run was made simply for souvenir copies.

SONET equipment is staking over public network transmission worldwide. Its support for broadband digital services has made it the transmission standard of choice. Its powerful synchronous optical transmission technology has also made it a major headache to adapt to.
