While I was a copywriter with the Oregon Catholic Press (a liturgical music publishing house with a worldwide reach), I was privileged to meet many remarkable people. Father Ho Lung was one of my favorites. It was my joy to help spread the word about his first collections with OCP.
Writing for the web is much like writing for radio or TV. People don't read, they scan. You only have a few seconds of cognitive time to grab or redirect them. Bullets, snappy heads, invocative images and font tricks are major tools. Most importantly, know where you need to go and get there quickly.
My goal in this piece was a soft sell: help customers realize that they could become part of his mission by using his music in their own services or devotions. Later pages explored the music itself.

Fr. Ho Lung was born and raised on the island of Jamaica. He has dedicated his life to serving the poorest of the poorthe homeless and destitute in some of the worlds worst slums. He founded the Missionaries of the Poor, the religious order that has been recognized by the Vatican and was supported by Mother Teresa. They now house and care for abandoned children, lepers, people with AIDS and others in need in India, the Philippines, Haiti and Jamaica. A primary source of revenue for the Missionaries of the Poor is the music written by Fr. Ho Lung. Much of his music is distinctly Caribbean-sounding but transcends all cultural and ethnic boundaries. Strong in its rhythms, free in its natural melodic flow, Fr. Ho Lung's powerful, emotional songs have been sung at Papal Masses and used in Catholic liturgies and other worship services. |
